Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of bloopers: Indy sequel tops 2008 list of movie mistakes
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 3:41 PM on 30th December 2008Nineteen years after the last Indy movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Skull opened to a fanfare at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
But while fans were delighted to see the crusader back on screen, it seems Harrison Ford's intrepid character's return wasn't as perfect as some would have liked.
The Steven Spielberg film has topped a list of the most mistakes in a movie in 2008.
Eagle-eyed fans reported 67 continuity and historical gaffes in the £125million movie to film website MovieMistakes.com.
'What's that Henry... a mistake?' Harrison Ford as Indy and Shia LaBeouf as his son Henry in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
One mistake in Indiana Jones features Ford's shirt going from tucked in and untucked in the same scene and an American flag featuring the wrong amount of stars.
When Indy and Irina (Cate Blanchett) are standing in the foreground analyzing drawings, look over Indy's shoulder and eagled-eyed viewers can see Ox, Marion and Mutt standing up and moving forward.
After the scene cuts a couple of times, a soldier asks them to stand up and move forward again.
Then, when they fall into the water, while the stairs disappear, the skull splashes twice.
Despite the film's setting of 1957, one character drives a post-2000 Harley Davidson motorbike and the country Belize appears on a map, although it was known as British Honduras until 1973.
Actor Shia LaBeouf sits astride a Harley Davidson in the film, but other characters were seen riding post-2000 Harleys despite the film's 1957 setting
And in another error, when the female Russian character is descending the cliff, you can briefly see the harness cable that is holding her up right next to the rope on which she is climbing down.
Behind Indy in second place was Abba musical Mamma Mia! with 44 mistakes and Batman sequel The Dark Knight - which has just been named the film of the year in a poll by DVD rental company LOVEFiLM, came in at third place with 43 mistakes.
Mamma Mia! contains a considerable number of glaring continuity and visible errors. During classic Abba song 'Winner Takes it All', at the start of the song, Donna has her hands up near her chest, but in the next shot they are down by her side.
When Donna is telling Tanya about Sophie's dad arriving, stage lights can be seen in Donna's glass.
And when Sam tells Sophie that they could do a test to see who her father is, Sophie raises her hands to her face twice.
Mistakes: Mamma Mia!, starring Christine Baranski, Meryl Streep and Julie Walters, features 44 bloopers
The Dark Knight also contains multiple glaring errors. Fans spotted that when the Joker is talking to character Harvey Dent in the hospital - it flips quickly back and forth between shots where the gauze is on Dent's skin and then it suddenly disappears.
When Dent is talking in the hospital after being rescued, the pillow shown is bloody on his left side (where he was burned) and then is shown clean again in a subsequent shot.
And in the opening scene of the aerial view of the building adjacent to the bank, moviegoers can see the reflection of the filming helicopter on the left side of the building.
And in another visible crew error, at around an hour and a half into the movie, during Batman's interrogation of Joker, when he picks him up and slams him against the wall, for a very brief moment viewers can see the camera and the cameraman in the reflection of the mirror on the right.
MovieMistakes owner Jon Sandys said: 'With the budget of many movies, you'd think they could avoid mistakes like this, or at least use computers to cover them up.
'But they keep cropping up, and eagle-eyed movie fans keep spotting them.'
