AN INDONESIAN maid assaulted her employer's mother with a metal decorative statute before fleeing with $2,200 worth of stolen property.
On Thursday, Miswanti, 23, was jailed for eight months for causing hurt to Madam Lim Poh Lam, 57, with a weapon and theft.
She had been working for Madam Lim's daughter, Ms Jennie Soh Wee Lin, 31, at Bedok North Street 2, for barely a month when she committed the offences.
Assistant Public Prosecutor GK Jayarajan said on Oct 23 last year, Miswanti was cleaning the master bedroom when she stole Ms Soh's watch.
She then opened the wardrobe and stole an assortment of costume jewellery.
She then called out to Madam Lim who was watching TV in the living room.
Madam Lim thought the maid wanted to show her something in the toilet.
But Miswanti took a solid metal decorative statute and swung it at the victim's head, injuring her.
Miswanti pulled Madam Lim into the toilet and left her there.
She then took a green handbag and stuffed all the stolen items inside before leaving.
On seeing this, Madam Lim shouted for help. A resident called the police.
Miswanti was arrested at Changi Beach 15 days later.
Another charge of causing hurt to Madam Lim was considered during her sentencing.
She could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined on each of the two charges.
