Arctic sea smoke drifts up from the ocean as a 88-foot galleon drifts majestically by.

The mystical scene occurred after temperatures plunged to minus-12 degree F in Rockland, Maine yesterday morning.

Sea smoke appears when very cold air passes over warmer water, causing a type of fog.

It is just one of many beautiful images from around the world as the January weather takes a dramatic turn.

Drifting ice on the river has come to a halt on a stretch of more than 100 km in Frankfurt Oder, Germany.

In Budapest in Hungary, pigeons were pictured flying over a steaming the Heroes' Square - one of the city's most famous landmarks.

Since the beginning of the year, winter chills have killed more than 40 people in Hungary, where temperature in some parts of the country have reached minus 20 degrees celsius (minus four Fahrenheit)
