Woman jailed for causing hurt

A WOMAN who retaliated when she was spat at was jailed for a week and fined $1,000 on Thursday for causing hurt to a man.
Lim Ah Lan, 47, a self-employed school bus driver, admitted to hurting Mr Mohamed Faisal Hanif, 34, along Bedok North Street 1 on April 18 last year.
She was driving a van along Bedok North Avenue 3 when she stopped behind a car at a traffic light junction with the intention to turn right.
When the driver of the car, Madam Nurshidah Ali, 36, wife of Mr Faisal, was waiting for the appropriate time to turn, Lim inched her van closer and sounded her horn twice.
Feeling the pressure, Madam Nurshidah edged her car forward slightly. Lim then overtook her car and turned right into Bedok North Street 1. She then pulled up at a bus stop.
After Madam Nurshidah had made the right turn and stopped infront of Lim's van, Mr Faisal alighted.
He approached Lim to tell her that she had driven recklessly. A dispute broke out. Lim hurled vulgarities at Mr Faisal who spat at her face.
Lim then got out of the van and approached the victim. She went back to the van and took a metal steering-wheel lock and tried to hit the victim. He blocked off some of the blow but was hit in the right leg a few times.
Mr Faisal was convicted and fined $1,000 last August for spitting at Lim.
Lim's lawyer, Mr Peter Ong, said his client, a mother of three, had been very depressed due to the incident.
She felt humiliated and degraded when the victim spat at her and committed the offence in a momentary lapse of judgment. The lawyer said the ex-volunteer special constabulary was not a typical road rage bully.
Lim could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000 for causing hurt.
