Children taught 'resilience'
By Jermyn Chow

VISITORS to the Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) can now watch a video of a 10-year-old girl's recovery from a mock terrorist attack in Singapore.

The eight-minute clip, entitled 'A New Dawn', is the sequel to an earlier video that simulated a bomb blast at Raffles place.

The video, produced by SDC and the National Security Coordinating Secretariat, was launched yesterday by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Prof S Jayakumar.

According to SDC's executive director Brigadier-General (NS) Lowrence Chua, the video also 'shows how Singapore swiftly reverts to a state of normalcy after a crisis'.

The video is part of the Discovery Centre's efforts to pass on the idea of Total Defence and 'resilience' to more than 100,000 upper primary and secondary students.

Other programmes include teaching students how to be 'eyes and ears' on the ground in the fight against terror and how different Government agencies respond to a crisis.

Seminars about 'resilience' are also in the pipeline for teachers.

Explaining the move, Brig-Gen (NS) Chua said that such education should start with school-aged children.
